 I am thrilled to finally present to you, the “The Seer” series!

 

The Seer started as a short story, which I published in my first book “13 Unusual Short Stories”. But when I received an overwhelming response from many readers who wanted to read more about the Seer and many who wanted a longer format of this story, I was inspired to turn it into a series!

 In a small town in India, a young boy is drawn into a world of magic and spells, when he learns that his grandfather is a Seer — a psychic who can communicate with spirits.

 But unfortunately, his grandfather passes away before he can teach him more about spells and magic, and young Vikram should now navigate the world of magic on his own. Armed with his grandfather’s Book of Spells, Vikram vows to become a Seer to help people and spirits, while battling monsters and demons along with way!

Short Story - Mother's Day

 

Jack stood at the doorway of his parents’ house, a bouquet of flowers in hand, a feeling of sorrow engulfing him. It was the first Mother’s Day since she passed away—

He always visited his mother on Mother’s Day.

His job took him around the world. But It didn’t matter which part of the world he was, he made it a point to go back to his parents’ house in Manchester.

Jack had come home every year to spend time with his parents, especially with his mom. The last couple of years he had flown down from China, which was half way around the world.

But this year he had to deal with something devastating, the death of his mother.

At first, he wanted to cancel his trip and immerse himself in work. This way he could avoid thinking about her. Going back home brought back memories and only made things worse. But then, he thought of his father who was alone, and so had come back home to visit him.

He reached out and rang the doorbell.

He remembered how his mother would rush to open the door when she heard the doorbell. She always knew he would come home on Mother’s Day.

Jack stood at the door, gripping the flowers. He knew she would not come and greet him this time. So, with a heavy heart he waited. And then he heard it.

His mother’s familiar footsteps rushing towards the door.

A surprised Jack, took a step back!

When the front door swung open, he expected his father but there was only emptiness. There was no one to greet him.  Jack stood there, perplexed. And then he heard his mother’s voice.

“Jack! My son! I knew you would come home!  Come on in”.

Jack felt a chill run up his spine. He looked around but there was no one.

“Is that you ma?” he asked. “Where’s dad?”

“Your father is inside. Come on in,” said the voice. “Since you have come, it will be just like the old days”.

Jack stood for a couple of moments, unsure of what to do. But he never disobeyed his mother, and he knew she would never hurt him.

So, he stepped inside the house and the door slammed shut.

13 Unusual Short Stories

Dear Reader,

It gives me a great sense of joy to put together this collection of short stories. Some are folklore, some are my childhood experiences and some just a figment of my imagination!!
All the short stories are an easy read and explore human emotions, relationships and the supernatural.
Set either in one of the big cities or in one of India’s numerous small towns and villages, they give a glimpse into the lives of common folk. The stories have an exciting twist at the end which makes them ‘unusual’. The stories will make you cry and laugh and send an occasional shiver down your spine!! Even though the stories are short and crisp, hopefully, they will stay with you for a long time!
